DeceasedCraft drops you into a modern city after the infection has already won. It takes its cues from Project Zomboid and 7 Days to Die rather than from other Minecraft packs: scavenging is the early game, holding a building is the mid game, and the hordes get worse the longer you survive.

The city is the thing that sets it apart. Rather than scattering a few structures across a normal world, the pack generates a sprawling urban map split into hand-designed districts, with more than 60 custom buildings drawn by an architect. Looting feels deliberate because the buildings were designed to be looted, and the districts give the map a sense of progression as you push into rougher areas.

Tech progression runs on Create and Immersive Engineering, so the mid game is about automating what you scavenged, and a cast of custom NPCs hand out quests that open up trading once you complete them. Horde waves are driven by how long each player has survived, so the pressure ramps as your group digs in. It runs on Forge 1.20.1 and suits groups who want survival with a real threat curve.

Hosting DeceasedCraft

8 GB, and why the city earns it

We set 8 GB for a group of around six. The reason this pack sits higher than its mod count suggests is city generation: building a dense urban map with custom structures is far more work per chunk than ordinary terrain, and the buildings that result are full of blocks, entities and loot containers that stay loaded while players are in them.

Check where the world spawns before anyone joins

This is the setup step people skip. The pack's own guidance is that you should be starting in a medium or large Suburb Residential District, and if the world did not generate you one, you should make a new world rather than play on. Doing that on day one costs nothing. Doing it three weeks later costs everybody's base, so generate the world, look at where spawn landed, and regenerate if it is wrong.

Pregenerate, because cities are expensive

This is one of the packs where pregeneration genuinely pays. Several players exploring into fresh city chunks at the same time is the classic source of lag here, and unlike terrain, a city block is heavy the moment it appears. The pack ships no pregeneration tool, so add Chunky to the server, cover a sensible radius around spawn before you invite people, and let it finish while nobody is online.

Which build to run, and the beta caveat

Be deliberate here. The 5.10 line is an open beta, and the developers are explicit that it cannot be completed: the Wasteland and Abyss districts are not in it, so the endgame and the top-tier gear are missing. If your group wants to finish the pack, run the older complete release instead. There is also no guarantee a beta world will carry over to the finished version.

Forge 1.20.1 means Java 17, selected at install. Back up before any update, and move all your players' clients at the same time.

Beta

5.10 cannot be finished

The developers state the Wasteland and Abyss districts are missing, so there is no endgame in this line.

Spawn

Check the starting district

The pack expects a suburb residential start. If the world spawns elsewhere, regenerate before anyone builds.

Pregen

City chunks are heavy

Dense custom buildings cost far more to generate than terrain, so pregenerating around spawn pays off here.

How to install DeceasedCraft on your server

  1. 1

    Order the server

The button on this page preselects the RAM this pack needs. It is online about a minute after checkout.

  2. 2

Open the Modpacks tab and search DeceasedCraft

In the panel's Modpacks tab, search for DeceasedCraft and pick DeceasedCraft - Urban Zombie Apocalypse, then choose the DH Edition build of 5.10.17, or the plain 5.10.17 build if your players would rather run the lighter client edition.

  3. 3

    Press install and wait

The panel downloads the server pack, installs the loader and the right Java version, then restarts.

  4. 4

    Join with the same build

Everyone installs the same pack build in their launcher, then connects to the address on the Overview tab.
