Why can I not install MC Eternal with one click?

Because the pack no longer publishes a server pack on CurseForge. Modpack installers rely on that file, and the last MC Eternal build to include one was in 2021. The current builds ship client files only. The manual route works fine: start a Forge 1.12.2 server, upload the pack's `mods` and `config` folders over SFTP, strip the client-only mods, and start it.

Which mods do I need to remove for the server?

The client-side ones, chiefly minimaps and rendering or visual mods, which will stop a dedicated server booting rather than simply being ignored. If the server crashes on first start, the console names the mod that failed, and that name is your instruction. Work through them one at a time rather than deleting broadly, and keep a copy of the original folder before you begin.

How much RAM does an MC Eternal server need?

8 GB, which follows the author's own guidance: roughly 5.5 GB as a server minimum and 8 GB or more recommended. That suits a group of around six. Since this is a Java 8 pack, allocating far more than that tends to lengthen garbage collection pauses rather than smooth things out, so pregenerating the world is the better lever.

Why does the first start take so long?

It is a large 1.12.2 pack, and that generation of Minecraft loads mods far more slowly than modern versions do. A first boot with several hundred mods and no caches can take a long time. Let it finish rather than restarting, because interrupting it can leave configs half written and produce confusing errors on the next attempt.

Should I pregenerate the world?

Yes, it is worthwhile here. MC Eternal is a full overworld pack with a lot of mod worldgen and an adventuring focus, so players are regularly walking into chunks nobody has generated. Add Chunk Pregenerator to the server's `mods` folder, run it over a sensible radius while nobody is online, and let it complete before your group starts playing.

How do I update a manually installed server?

The same way you installed it. Take a full backup first, since there is no installer keeping track of what changed for you. Then replace the `mods` and `config` folders with the new build's versions, strip the client-only mods again, and start the server watching the console. Everyone must move to the same build at once, because Forge compares mod lists on connect.

Adam built it by taking the parts people enjoy about modded skyblock, the quests, the shop, the sense of a list to work through, and folding them into a full kitchen sink with RPG elements on top. The result is a pack with more than 1000 quests that never feels like a checklist, because almost all of them are optional rewards for doing what you were going to do anyway.

The other defining choice is the mod selection. Rather than assembling the usual suspects, it leans deliberately on mods the author felt were overlooked, particularly for adventuring, and keeps crafting recipes basic so the pack stays approachable despite its size. That is why people describe it as a kitchen sink that is not complicated, and why rats firing cheese from cannons is a real sentence about this pack.

It has been maintained over years rather than shipped and abandoned, though it remains on Minecraft 1.12.2. It suits a mixed group where some people want to build, some want quests and some want to wander off and find something odd.

MC Eternal's recent builds do not publish a server pack on CurseForge. The last one that did was back in 2021, several versions ago, so a one-click modpack installer has nothing to deploy for the current build.

The route is manual but well trodden, and every server here has full SFTP and a file manager:

Start a Forge server for Minecraft 1.12.2 once and accept the EULA.
Download the pack from CurseForge and open the archive.
Upload its mods and config folders to the server.
Remove client-only mods from mods, the minimaps and rendering mods, which will stop a dedicated server booting.
Start it again and watch the console on first boot.

Expect that first start to take a while on a 1.12.2 pack this size.

Exploring is the cost

This is a full overworld pack with a lot of mod worldgen and an adventuring focus, so first-visit chunk generation is where the server works hardest. The pack ships no pregeneration tool, so add Chunk Pregenerator to mods on the server and cover a radius around spawn before you invite your group.

Java and updating

1.12.2 means Java 8, selected for you. Since installs here are manual, treat an update as a repeat of the process above and take a backup before you overwrite anything. A Lite edition exists if the full pack is too much for your players' machines.
