MC Eternal is a hybrid, and that word is doing real work. Adam built it by taking the parts people enjoy about modded skyblock, the quests, the shop, the sense of a list to work through, and folding them into a full kitchen sink with RPG elements on top. The result is a pack with more than 1000 quests that never feels like a checklist, because almost all of them are optional rewards for doing what you were going to do anyway.

The other defining choice is the mod selection. Rather than assembling the usual suspects, it leans deliberately on mods the author felt were overlooked, particularly for adventuring, and keeps crafting recipes basic so the pack stays approachable despite its size. That is why people describe it as a kitchen sink that is not complicated, and why rats firing cheese from cannons is a real sentence about this pack.

It has been maintained over years rather than shipped and abandoned, though it remains on Minecraft 1.12.2. It suits a mixed group where some people want to build, some want quests and some want to wander off and find something odd.
