FTB Skies Server Hosting

Everyone spawns in a shared lobby with a portal. Going through it lets you pick an island layout, and a dimension is then created for your team. Anyone who later joins that team is taken to the same dimension rather than getting a new one, so teams stay together. That is why deciding team structure early matters more here than on most packs.

6 GB is FTB's own recommended figure, against a 4 GB minimum, and that is what we set. The thing to watch is team count rather than player count: each team gets its own dimension, so a server where everyone makes a separate team is doing considerably more work than one where six friends share a single team and island.

It adds up, yes. Every team dimension is another set of region files on disk and another world being ticked while its owners are online. For a handful of teams that is fine. If you expect a lot of players, plan for fewer, larger teams, and let people join existing teams rather than starting their own, which also keeps the group playing together.

There is nothing useful to pregenerate. The island dimensions are void worlds with a structure placed in them, so there is no terrain being generated as players explore, and the pack includes no pregeneration mod. Performance work on a Skies server is about what players build: entity counts, machine density and how many team dimensions are loaded at once.

FTB Chunks ships set so force-loaded chunks tick only while a member of that team is online. Set `force_load_mode` to `ALWAYS` in the `force_loading` group of the FTB Chunks server config and restart. On an existing world, edit the copy under `world/serverconfig`. On a team-dimension pack this catches people out more than usual, because each team notices it separately.

Yes in the normal case, and the panel keeps the world and can back it up during the update. Because team dimensions are stored in the same world folder, a backup covers everyone's islands together, which is worth doing before any version change. Read the changelog for removed mods, and have all your players update their clients on the same day.
