Does Valhelsia 3 have a quest book?

No, and that is deliberate. The pack's own feature list is entirely content: biomes, structures, tech mods, magic mods and tooling, with nothing directing you through them. Players set their own goals. If your group wants a checklist to work through together, an FTB or All the Mods pack suits them better; if they want to be left alone with a good world, this is the appeal.

How much RAM does a Valhelsia 3 server need?

8 GB for a group of around six. The mod list is substantial, and because there is no questline funnelling people through the same content, players tend to scatter into separate projects and separate bases, which keeps more of the world loaded. Since this is a Java 8 pack, going far above 8 GB usually lengthens collection pauses rather than helping.

Should I pregenerate the world?

Yes, it is the highest-value setup step on this pack. Five biome mods plus YUNG's rebuilt caves and mineshafts make each new chunk considerably more expensive than vanilla, and a sandbox pack means players keep exploring for materials. Add Chunk Pregenerator to the server, cover a sensible radius while nobody is online, and let it finish before your group starts.

What makes Tetra worth knowing about?

It replaces the usual tool tiers with modular tools you assemble from materials, so a player's pickaxe becomes an ongoing project rather than something they upgrade five times and forget. On a server that tends to create a specialist: somebody works out the good combinations and equips the group. It is one of the reasons Valhelsia feels different from other kitchen sinks.

Is Valhelsia 3 still worth running?

For a group that wants a settled world, yes. It is finished rather than abandoned, so nothing will change under a long-running save, and the mod selection has aged well. What you give up is modern Minecraft: this is 1.16.5, so newer blocks and the current mod ecosystem are not available. If that matters, a newer kitchen sink is the better choice.

Can I add mods to it?

Valhelsia 3 is the pack people recommend when someone says they want a big modded world without being told what to do. The Valhelsia Team's approach is to assemble a lot of high-quality mods, tune them to work together properly, and then get out of the way.

The world is the first thing you notice. Biomes O' Plenty, Autumnity, Atmospheric, Environmental and Druidcraft between them make a genuinely attractive overworld, the underground is rebuilt with YUNG's Better Caves and Better Mineshafts plus Quark's underground biomes, and the pack's own Valhelsia Structures mod scatters things worth finding across all of it.

What you do there is up to you. Mekanism, Immersive Engineering and Create cover automation; Botania, Eidolon, Blood Magic and Astral Sorcery cover magic; and Tetra lets you build modular tools from combined materials rather than picking one tier. Farmer's Delight and Supplementaries fill in the comfortable parts, and artifacts reward exploring. It runs on Forge 1.16.5 and suits groups who want to be handed a good world and left alone in it.

No questline changes how a server runs

Valhelsia's feature list is all content and no questing, and that is the defining fact for a group. Nobody is working a shared checklist, so people naturally scatter into their own projects: one person on Mekanism, another on Astral Sorcery, another just building.

That is the appeal and it has a cost. More of the map gets used, more separate bases exist, and more chunks stay busy than on a pack where everyone funnels through the same quest chapters. It also means you should agree early what people are doing, or you get four half-finished factories and no shared infrastructure.

We set 8 GB for a group of around six. Minecraft 1.16.5 in this pack runs on Java 8, selected at install, and that runtime does not reward very large heaps: past a point, longer garbage collection pauses cost you more than the extra memory gains. If the server struggles, look at chunkloading and at what is generating rather than at the number.

The world is the expensive part

Five biome mods plus rebuilt caves and mineshafts means creating a chunk here does considerably more work than on a vanilla server, and a sandbox pack keeps players exploring for materials. The pack ships no pregeneration tool, so add Chunk Pregenerator to the server, cover a radius of the overworld before you invite people, and let it run while nobody is online. On this pack it is the single most effective thing you can do.

Updating

Valhelsia 3 has been finished for some time, so a world you start now will not be disrupted by a stream of updates. Back up before any change anyway, and remember Forge compares mod lists, so every player moves at the same time or not at all.
