`level-type=default` in server.properties, which FTB state explicitly for this pack. It catches people out because island packs usually want a void world type, and the instinct is to set one. The pack generates its own starting island on a normal world type. Getting it wrong gives a broken start, and since world type is fixed at generation the fix is a new world.

Ocean generates cheaply compared with varied land, so unlike most packs relatively little of that memory goes to the world. It goes to your base instead, and island packs concentrate machinery into a small number of permanently loaded chunks.

OceanBlock 2 is a newer pack on Minecraft 1.21.1 with a different story, a crashed escape pod premise and its own progression. Pick by Minecraft version and by which progression appeals.

FTB Chunks force-loads chunks only while a team member is connected unless you change it. On an island pack that is particularly noticeable, because it halts your entire production rather than one outlying farm. Set `force_load_mode` to `ALWAYS` in the `force_loading` group of the FTB Chunks server config and restart, editing the copy under `world/serverconfig` on an existing world.

Not really. The world is ocean, which is inexpensive to generate, and players are not exploring in the way they would on a land pack. There is no meaningful first-visit cost to move offline and the pack ships no pregeneration tool. Spend the effort on chunk claim settings and on keeping an eye on machine density instead, which is where an island server actually gets heavy.

That is the pack's core design rather than a bug, and it is the thing that makes OceanBlock work. The ocean stays a hazard until the questline gets you a scuba suit, at which point diving opens up the custom structures in the depths. New players almost always ask this in their first ten minutes, so it is worth telling your group in advance.
