Start with 6 GB for a group of around six. The first phases are light because the whole world is one block and a few platforms. Memory use rises once the island holds powered machines, mob spawners and storage, so watch usage in the late phases and add a gigabyte or two if long sessions start to stutter.

Around six is the sweet spot. Every player shares the same island and draws from the same block, so a bigger group spends more time waiting for drops than playing. Small teams split the work naturally: one breaks the block, others build farms and push quests, which keeps the phases moving quickly.

Back up the server first, then read the changelog of the new build for changes to phases, quests or drops. Install the update from the Modpacks tab, start the server once and check the quest book and the block still behave as before. If something is wrong, restore the backup and stay on the old build.

You can add Forge 1.16.5 mods through the panel's file manager or SFTP, and every player needs the same mods in their client. Removing mods is riskier here: if a mod supplies items that a phase or quest depends on, progression can stall. Change one mod at a time and keep a backup from before each change.
