The Dwellers is a horror modpack by Sfenel for Forge 1.19.2. It takes ordinary Minecraft survival and fills it with several dwellers, hostile presences that watch, follow and ambush players, alongside a Herobrine that is far more than a rumour. Around them sits a set of horror and immersion mechanics that change how nights, caves and empty landscapes feel.

The hook is uncertainty. With 52 mods the pack stays focused rather than bloated, so almost every addition serves the atmosphere instead of adding another tech tree. You still mine, build and explore, but every trip away from base turns into a judgement call, and sounds you would normally ignore start to matter.

It suits groups who want to be scared together: friends who enjoy jump scares over voice chat, streamers looking for genuine reactions, and survival players who are tired of a world that never fights back. On a shared server the tension multiplies, because one player wandering off alone can bring trouble back for everyone else.

Hosting The Dwellers

How much RAM The Dwellers needs

We recommend 5 GB for The Dwellers. At 52 mods it is a light pack by modpack standards, so the base footprint stays modest. What drives load is the entities: the dwellers and Herobrine run their own tracking and AI, and every player exploring in a different direction keeps extra chunks and mobs ticking. If the server stutters the moment a dweller appears, add spark and profile that moment instead of guessing:

/spark profiler start
/spark profiler stop

Pregenerating the world

Horror works best when nothing hitches. Generating fresh terrain on Forge 1.19.2 costs CPU, and a lag spike while a dweller closes in ruins the mood more than any missing feature could. Pregenerate the area around spawn before your group logs in, using the built-in Forge command, which takes a chunk count:

/forge generate 0 64 0 2000

Run it once while the server is empty, then let players push the borders outward naturally as they explore.

Java version and updating

Minecraft 1.19.2 runs on Java 17, and that is the version the server should use. The latest build of The Dwellers is 5.3. Back up the world before moving to a newer build, because updates can rename or drop mods, and a world saved with a missing mod may lose the blocks or entities it added. Make sure every player updates their client to exactly the same build as the server, or Forge will refuse the connection with a mod mismatch.

Horror

Several dwellers, plus Herobrine

Multiple hostile presences stalk players instead of one predictable monster.

Lean

52 focused mods

A light mod count keeps the server responsive while the atmosphere does the heavy lifting.
