How much RAM does a Parasites: Reloaded server need?

We recommend 5 GB. The pack only carries sixteen mods, so the base footprint is small, but parasite attacks spawn large groups of hostile mobs at once and every one of them is an entity the server has to track. If your group builds big animal farms or stays online for long sessions, moving up a step gives you headroom during the worst waves.

How many players can join?

The 5 GB recommendation is sized for a small group of friends playing together. The pack rewards cooperation, so a tight squad sharing one base runs far better than many players spread across the map, because scattered players load more chunks and give the parasites more places to spawn. Raise the RAM before you invite a larger crowd.

How do I update the pack safely?

Back up the world first, then install the newer build from the Modpacks tab while nobody is online. Build 1.3.0 is the latest. Join alone afterwards and walk around your base: if a build removed or renamed a mod, missing blocks show up straight away and you can restore the backup instead of losing progress.

Can I add or remove mods?

Yes, through the Files tab or SFTP, but every extra mod must be a Forge build for Minecraft 1.12.2. The pack is balanced around a short list, so mods that add overpowered gear or remove mob pressure can flatten the whole challenge. Pulling a mod out of a running world can delete its blocks, so back up before changing anything.

How does it compare with RLCraft?

Both are punishing Forge 1.12.2 survival packs, but RLCraft stacks well over a hundred mods of dragons, dungeons and realistic needs. Parasites: Reloaded is a compact Forge 1.12.2 pack from the Forge Labs Team. You wake up in a world after the bombs fell, with ruined ground, thin supplies and a parasitic species that treats every animal, villager and player as something to consume. Sixteen mods keep the focus narrow: no tech trees or magic systems pulling you sideways, just survival, combat and gear that has to be earned the hard way.

The hook is pressure. The parasites do not politely wait for nightfall, and the onslaught keeps coming while you scavenge for food, armour and weapons. Every trip beyond your walls is a calculated risk, and one careless death can leave you rebuilding from nothing while the creatures close in on everything you built.

It suits players who enjoyed the tension of hardcore survival but want a smaller, quicker-loading pack than the sprawling 1.12.2 kitchen-sink lists. On a shared server it plays best as a squad: one person fortifies, others forage, and everyone covers each other when the swarm arrives at the gate.

RAM and what drives load

Five GB is the recommended starting point. Sixteen mods is a light list, so Forge itself takes little memory here; the real cost is entities. Parasites arrive in groups, and a firefight next to a base packed with farm animals, item frames and dropped loot can stack hundreds of entities into a handful of loaded chunks. If the tick rate dips during an attack, check the mob count around your bases and clear loose items before you reach for more RAM.

World pregeneration and chunk loading

Forge 1.12.2 generates terrain on the main server thread, so a player sprinting across fresh land stalls the server for everyone else. Keep view distance modest on this pack, because every loaded chunk is also somewhere parasites can spawn and brawl. Get the group to build close together early: one defended compound keeps far fewer chunks ticking than four scattered shelters, and it is much easier to hold when a heavy wave rolls in.

Java version and updating

Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge runs on Java 8, and newer Java releases will not start it, so leave the server's Java image on version 8. The latest build is 1.3.0. Before switching builds, back up the world folder, since a changed mod list can wipe blocks or items that no longer exist. Update between sessions with everyone logged off, then join alone once to confirm your base loads cleanly.
