How much RAM does an Isle of Berk server need?

How many players can share one Berk?

The 6 GB recommendation is tuned for around six players sharing one island. More can join, but every extra rider adds dragons to tick and fresh chunks to load. Watch tick time with spark as the group grows, and raise RAM when the village fills with mounts instead of waiting for stutter in mid-flight.

How do I update Isle of Berk without losing our village?

Take a full backup first, then install the new build from the Modpacks tab. Read the changelog before you do: when an update removes a dragon or structure mod, anything that mod added disappears from the existing world. If the new build does not start or your dragons are gone, restore the backup and stay on the older build.

Can I add or remove mods from the pack?

Yes, through the Files tab or SFTP, as long as each addition is a Forge mod built for 1.18.2. Players need the same mods on their client to join, so share the changes with everyone. Removing a mod that adds dragons, items or blocks deletes those from the world, so back up before trimming the list.

Isle of Berk, also listed upstream as Claws of Berk, is a Forge 1.18.2 modpack by Kesselot that rebuilds the How to Train Your Dragon world inside Minecraft. Around 106 mods work together to fill the game with dragons, Viking life, dungeons and nods to the films, so a fresh world plays like an island saga rather than vanilla survival with extras bolted on.

The hook is the dragon itself. You start as an ordinary Viking with stone tools, and the long arc of the pack is turning the beasts that threaten your island into mounts and companions. Pregenerating the island and chunk loading

Dragon flight is the main reason to pregenerate. A rider crossing open sea creates fresh chunks every few seconds, and on Forge 1.18.2 world generation is the heaviest single job the server does. Forge ships a built-in generate command that takes a chunk count around a centre point, so run it while nobody is online and let it finish before opening the world. Keep the view distance moderate afterwards, because a high value multiplies the terrain every airborne player holds loaded.

Java 17 and updating the pack

Minecraft 1.18.2 runs on Java 17, and that is the runtime the server should use, since newer Java releases can trip older Forge mods at startup. Isle of Berk is still maintained, with build 3.2.6 the latest at the time of writing, and releases can swap or drop dragon and structure mods.
