Backrooms: Found Footage turns Minecraft into a lost tape from the Backrooms. Put together by onr23 on Fabric 1.20.1, the pack wraps 47 mods around SpacePotatoee's Found Footage mod, so the familiar block world gives way to endless yellow wallpaper, humming fluorescent tubes and damp carpet, all filtered through a camcorder look that makes every screenshot feel like recovered evidence.

The hook is atmosphere, not grinding. There is no tech tree to climb and no boss checklist to tick off: progress means finding a way out of each level while the lighting, sound and camera effects keep your pulse up. Because the fear lives in whatever waits around the next identical corner, it plays nothing like a survival pack where you build a base and settle in for weeks.

It suits small friend groups planning a shared scare night, streamers and video makers chasing that recovered tape aesthetic, and anyone who binged Backrooms videos and wants to walk those halls with company. On a dedicated server the whole group shares one world, so players who get separated can genuinely search for each other instead of reloading a solo save.

RAM and what drives load

We recommend 5 GB for this pack. With 47 mods it sits at the light end of our scale, and most of what makes it feel heavy, the shaders, camcorder grain and moody lighting, is drawn by each player's own graphics card rather than by the server. Server work comes from generating fresh corridors as people wander off in different directions and from keeping every separated player's surroundings loaded. A group that scatters across the halls asks for more new rooms at once than one that sticks together.

Pregenerating the Backrooms

The rooms repeat endlessly in every direction and are built as players walk, so you can never pregenerate all of it. What you can do is stop fresh generation from stacking up when the group splits. On Fabric the Chunky mod handles this if you add it; point it at the dimension your group explores and give it a radius before the first session:

/chunky radius 1000
/chunky start

Keep an eye on the world folder afterwards, because long nights of wandering keep adding new corridors to disk.

Java 17 and updating

Minecraft 1.20.1 runs on Java 17, so leave the server on that runtime. The newest build we carry is 1.0.8.1. Before switching builds, stop the server and take a backup: a new build can change how levels generate, and corridors you already walked will not regenerate to match. Every player needs the same pack build as the server, since mismatched mods usually end in a registry error at login. Update clients and server together, then rejoin as a group.

Atmosphere

Camcorder horror on your GPU

The grain, lighting and shader effects render on each player's PC, so the server itself stays light.

Co-op

Get lost together

One shared world lets a split-up group hunt for each other through the same endless halls.
