Farming Valley is Kehaan's attempt to put Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley inside Minecraft, and it is far more literal about it than you might expect. The usual Minecraft grind is replaced with a farming and town-building economy, and progress comes from selling what you grow rather than from mining what you find.

It opens with a genuinely odd and charming step: your first goal is to summon a Goddess, who then explains how the pack works. From there you slowly build up a small town, expand your farms, and sell crops to local NPCs for money. Four seasons each have their own crops to buy, plant and harvest, so the calendar dictates what you should be doing rather than your gear tier.

The twist that changes everything is that many parts simply cannot be crafted. You buy them with money you earned, which makes the economy the real progression system and keeps selling at the center of play. An achievement book provides longer-term goals once your town is running. It suits groups who want a cooperative, low-violence server where everyone has a job.

Do not remove mods from this pack

Kehaan states this directly, and it is the single most important operational fact: the pack does not support removing mods. That matters more than usual on a server, because the instinct with an old pack is to strip out anything that looks client-side. Resist it here. If the server will not start, read the console and fix the actual error rather than deleting jars, because the pack's economy and progression are wired through mods that look optional and are not.

Minecraft 1.10.2, which is unusually old

This is the oldest Minecraft version we list. It runs on Java 8, which the installer selects for you, and it will not run on anything newer. A few practical consequences follow. The mod ecosystem for 1.10.2 is frozen, so adding anything means hunting for a build from that era. Tooling that assumes a modern version will not apply. And the pack is best treated as finished software: install it, play it, and do not expect to modernize it.

6 GB, and a gentle load profile

We set 6 GB for a group of around six. At around 92 entries this is one of the smallest packs we list, and the gameplay is kind to a server: players stay near their farms and town rather than exploring endlessly, so relatively little new terrain is generated after the first week.

What does accumulate is entities. Farms mean crops, animals and NPCs, and a well-developed town run by several players holds a lot of them in a small area. If the server slows down, count the animals before anything else.

Seasons make the server communal

The four-season cycle is shared world state, so everyone plants and harvests on the same calendar. That naturally pushes a group into coordinating: somebody handles animals, somebody handles crops, somebody runs the selling. It is worth dividing those roles deliberately, because a town built by a group that specializes grows far faster than one where everyone farms the same crop.

Mods

Never remove any

The author states the pack does not support removing mods, so do not strip jars to fix a boot error.

Version

Minecraft 1.10.2 on Java 8

The oldest pack we list. The mod ecosystem for it is frozen, so treat the pack as finished software.

Load

Animals, not terrain

Players stay near their town, so entity counts from farms and livestock matter more than chunk generation.
