With around 573 mods, a good deal of that is consumed by registries and recipe data before players build anything, so the starting floor is high. The upside is that it climbs relatively gently afterwards, so a group of around six fits inside that figure comfortably.

Probably not. Evolution is the largest pack in our list, and loading several hundred mods plus their recipes genuinely takes a while, especially on a cold first boot when caches are empty. Give it time before restarting, because interrupting a first start can leave configs half written. Later restarts are noticeably quicker once those caches exist.

Not technically, since the RAM figure is per server rather than per player, but it is worth thinking about. A kitchen sink this broad rewards players who already know what they want to build. If your group is new to modded Minecraft, a pack with a tighter mod list or a stronger questline gives them a clearer path, and Direwolf20 1.20 is the gentler FTB option.

FTB Chunks ships so that force-loaded chunks tick only while a member of the owning team is online. Change `force_load_mode` to `ALWAYS` in the FTB Chunks server config and restart. On an existing world, edit the copy under `world/serverconfig`, since the version in `defaultconfigs` only seeds brand new worlds and editing it will appear to do nothing.

Use spark, which ships with the pack. Run `/spark profiler --timeout 180` while the server feels slow, then read the report. On a pack with several hundred mods the cause is almost always one specific thing, a runaway farm, an over-large machine setup or a mob accumulation, rather than the pack being too heavy in general. Adding memory rarely fixes any of those.

Usually, and the panel keeps the world and offers a backup as part of the update. Evolution is under active development, so check the changelog before jumping, particularly for removed mods, because anything dropped from the pack takes its placed blocks out of your base with it. Have every player update their client on the same day so nobody is locked out.
