Start with 5 GB. The 32 mods add little on their own, so what you really plan for is the size of the fights. If your group likes to provoke huge crowds at once or plays with well over six people, step up a gigabyte or two and watch the tick rate during a big battle before deciding.

Around six is the sweet spot. The challenge depends on your side being outnumbered, so a small group keeps that tension while the server handles every opponent on screen. Larger groups work too, but more players usually means more hostile entities fighting at the same moment, so give the server extra memory before inviting everyone.

Back up the world first, then install the new build from the Modpacks tab and update every player's client to the same version. Builds can add, swap or remove mods, so start the server once, join, and check your base and inventory before you resume fighting. If something broke, restore the backup and stay on the previous build.

Removing a combat or content mod is riskier, since items and entities it added vanish from the world. Test changes on a copy of the world before touching the one your group plays on.

Most combat packs scale difficulty through dungeons, bosses and gear tiers you unlock over many sessions. Law Fight puts the outnumbered battle at the centre, in the style of the UnstableSMP videos, so sessions tend to be short and intense. It is also far lighter than the big RPG packs, which keeps memory use modest.

Because the fights are the workload. When a crowd of opponents appears, the server has to path every one of them toward your group, resolve hits and track drops on the same tick, while quiet exploring barely registers. Fight inside pregenerated terrain, clear dropped items between waves, and run a spark profile mid-battle to see what costs the most.
