Everything you need to know about Rust wipes

A plain-English breakdown of the four wipe types and how to prepare for each.

What is a Rust wipe?

A wipe is a server-wide reset that deletes progress so everyone starts from scratch. Facepunch forces monthly map wipes on official servers so no one gets so entrenched that new players can't compete. Community servers each set their own wipe cadence (weekly, biweekly, or custom).

Forced map wipe

Every first Thursday of the month at 2 PM ET, Facepunch ships the monthly update and every server wipes its map. Structures, storage, deployables and vehicles are gone. Learned blueprints are a separate question and are not part of the automatic reset.

Forced BP (blueprint) wipe

Blueprints are the one thing a force wipe does not automatically take. Facepunch announces global BP wipes separately, historically every few months and usually alongside a progression overhaul, so most months are a map wipe only. Community servers set their own rule: some keep blueprints for months, others run a full wipe every week.

Console wipe

Rust Console Edition is run by Double Eleven on its own schedule. Official monthly servers wipe on the last Thursday of the month at 2 PM ET, not the first, and the console build tracks the PC version from roughly a month earlier. Double Eleven also run weekly servers that wipe every Thursday and biweekly servers that wipe every other Thursday. Blueprints are the exception: their stated policy is to avoid wiping them wherever possible and to announce it in advance when a BP wipe is unavoidable.

Community wipes

Community servers pick their own schedule: most wipe weekly on Thursdays, some biweekly, a few daily for no-build-cost servers. Check the server description in the in-game browser or the owner's Discord; some hosts publish a wipe schedule page on their website.

How to prep for wipe day

In the 48 hours before a force wipe: finalize group rosters, agree on a starting location, pre-download any map mods or patches, clear your inventory of anything that will not carry, and be online at wipe time to grab prime beach real estate. Prime grids go fast.

Wiping your own Rust server

On a rented server the wipe is yours to schedule. A map wipe deletes the procedural map plus player positions, deaths and server-placed files, and keeps learned blueprints. A full wipe adds the blueprint file on top, so everyone re-researches. Steam identities, player tokens and your Oxide or Carbon plugins and their configs live outside those files and always survive. In the DoomHosting panel the Wipe tab does all of it in one click, takes a backup first, and rolls a fresh map seed so the new map is genuinely new.
