Explosive 5.56 ammo is usually the cheapest raiding method in terms of raw sulfur cost. However, it's slower and louder than C4 or rockets. For walls, C4 is often the best balance of cost and speed. Satchels are the cheapest option early-game but are unreliable due to their random fuse timer.

Every building block in Rust has a soft side and a hard side. The soft side takes significantly more damage from melee tools and costs fewer explosives to destroy. Walls, floors, and foundations all have a soft side that faces inward by default. This calculator shows hard-side raid costs, which is what you'll encounter on properly built bases.

Explosive ammo costs less sulfur per structure but takes longer and requires an automatic weapon (usually an AK or LR-300). C4 is faster and more convenient — just place it and walk away. For online raids where speed matters, C4 is preferred. For offline raids or when sulfur is limited, explosive ammo is more efficient.

A garage door costs 2 C4 (4,400 sulfur), 3 rockets (4,200 sulfur), or 150 explosive ammo (3,750 sulfur) to destroy. Explosive ammo is the cheapest method. Garage doors are one of the best value doors in Rust — they have 600 HP and are relatively cheap to craft.

Armored walls cost 8 C4 (17,600 sulfur) to raid through, making them extremely expensive to breach. However, armored building pieces require a Tier 3 Workbench and high-quality metal to craft. For most bases, sheet metal walls (4 C4 / 8,800 sulfur) offer the best balance of raid cost and build cost. Armored is mainly worth it for your core loot room.
