VEIN servers run on dedicated hardware in your DoomHosting control panel. This guide walks you through your first boot, the core settings, inviting friends, and installing mods.

Start your server

After you order, your VEIN server is provisioned automatically. Open the DoomHosting control panel, select your server, and press Start. The first boot pulls the latest VEIN server files (about 5 GB), so give it a minute or two before the status turns green.

Connect and invite friends

Your server has a public address shown at the top of the panel, in the form IP:PORT. VEIN uses UDP port 7777 for game traffic and 7778 for queries by default. In game, open the server browser or use Direct Connect and enter your IP:7777. Share that address with your friends so they can join.

Configure your server

Open the Startup tab, or edit the config over FTP, to change the essentials:

  • Server name: what shows in the browser
  • Max players: VEIN defaults to 16, and you can raise it toward 32 if your RAM tier supports it
  • Password: set one to keep your world private

Save your changes and restart the server for them to take effect.

Manage files over FTP

Every plan includes full FTP access. Use the credentials on the panel's FTP tab with a client like FileZilla to download saves, edit config files, or upload mods. Your world saves persist between restarts, so back them up before any major change.

Install mods

VEIN has a growing mod scene on Nexus Mods. Download the mod files, upload them to your server over FTP following the mod's install notes, and restart. Stick to mods built for your server's VEIN version to avoid crashes.

Common issues

  • Server stuck on starting: the first boot downloads about 5 GB, so wait a couple of minutes. If it persists, check that your RAM tier is at least 8 GB, which VEIN needs to launch.
  • Friends cannot connect: confirm they are using IP:7777 and that you both run the same VEIN version. A wrong port or a version mismatch is the usual cause.
  • Lag with many players: VEIN is memory-hungry. If you fill the lobby, raise your RAM in the panel. Our VEIN RAM calculator gives a quick estimate.
