Your ASKA server needs one thing before it can come online: a free Steam Game Server Login Token (GSLT). This guide walks you through creating the token, starting your server, and getting your tribe into the world.
Create your Steam GSLT
ASKA servers authenticate with Steam through a Game Server Login Token. It is free, takes about a minute, and you only do it once.
- Sign in at https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers with any Steam account that owns a game and is not limited.
- Under "Create a new game server account", enter this App ID:
1898300(that is ASKA's base game, not the dedicated server app). - Add a short memo so you remember what the token is for, for example "DoomHosting ASKA".
- Click Create, then copy the login token it generates.
Keep the token private. If it ever leaks, delete it on the same page and create a new one.
Start your server
- Open your server in the DoomHosting panel.
- Click Start. The first time you start an ASKA server, the panel asks for your GSLT.
- Paste the token and click Save and start.
The panel stores the token in the Startup tab under STEAM_GSLT, so you can update it there later if you ever replace it.
Join your server in ASKA
ASKA does not use direct IP connections. Your server registers with a relay network, and players find it by name:
- Launch ASKA and choose multiplayer.
- Open the server browser and search for your server name. The default name is set in the panel's Startup tab under
SERVER_NAME. - Enter the server password if you set one, and join.
Give the server a unique name so your tribe can find it quickly in the browser list. For the player-side walkthrough (and fixes when the server does not show up), see How to Join an ASKA Server.
Useful settings
All ASKA settings live in the panel's Startup tab and take effect after a restart:
SERVER_NAME: the name players search for in the server browser.SERVER_PASSWORD: keeps the settlement private. Leave empty for a public server.KEEP_SERVER_WORLD_ALIVE: set totrueand the world keeps running (villagers keep working, time passes) even when nobody is online. Leavefalseto pause the world when the last player logs off.
Common issues
The server starts but nobody can find it. Almost always the GSLT. Check that the token was created for App ID 1898300, that it is not expired or deleted, and that you pasted it without spaces. Steam expires tokens that go unused for a long time; create a fresh one and update STEAM_GSLT in the Startup tab.
Friends cannot see the server in the browser. Double-check they are searching the exact SERVER_NAME and that the server shows as running in the panel. Renaming the server requires a restart before the new name appears.
You changed a setting and nothing happened. Startup variables apply on boot. Restart the server from the panel after any change.
Need a hand? Our support team is available 24/7 from your control panel. If you have not ordered a server yet, you can get one at ASKA server hosting.
