DayZ Badlands is out. Bohemia Interactive released the expansion on October 15, 2026, together with the free Update 1.30 for every DayZ owner, and it is the biggest change to the game since Frostline. The headline is Nasdara, a brand new desert map, but if you run your own server the part that matters most today is quieter: 1.30 comes with a full wipe on official servers, mods need to catch up, and Nasdara's mission files are not where some installers expect to find them.
Here is what shipped, what it costs, and the checklist we would run before reopening a community server.
When Did DayZ Badlands Release, and What Does It Cost?
Badlands went live on October 15, 2026 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. The list price is about $24.99, with a 10% launch discount that brings it to roughly $22.50 (regional pricing applies). Owners of the base game can also grab Badlands and Frostline together in the new Hot & Cool Bundle.
Update 1.30 itself is free. Everyone gets the base game changes, including motorbikes, reworked skins on several firearms and assets, and a round of quality-of-life fixes. Only the Nasdara map is behind the paywall.
What Is Nasdara?

Nasdara is a 267 km² terrain built specifically for DayZ, and Bohemia calls it the largest one they have ever made for the game. For scale, Chernarus is roughly 225 km². It is an arid, war-torn province of jagged mountains, desert plains, evacuation zones, oil fields and crumbling military bases. With autumn in Chernarus, summer in Livonia and winter in Sakhal, Nasdara's dry spring completes DayZ's cycle of seasons.
The environment is the real enemy here. The sun overheats you, wind builds into sandstorms, and two new medical threats arrive: heatstroke and silicosis. Water is scarce, and you need it for more than drinking: it cools you down and rinses sand out of your eyes after a storm. The local wildlife is new too: mouflons, desert monitors and territorial dogs that guard their former owners' ground.

Rebuilding, Wells and Morse Code Bunkers

Nasdara has nearly 5,000 rebuildable structures, and they are not all houses. Wells and irrigation tunnels can be repaired too, which is the most interesting design change for community servers in years. On a PvE or roleplay server, a rebuilt well is a public good that a whole group can organise around. On a hardcore PvP server, it is bait.
The other big system is radio gameplay. Keep a personal radio on you and you will pick up Morse code transmissions carrying coordinates and access codes to urban bunkers. Decode them, find the entrance and loot what is inside. This was deliberately held back from the pre-release creator event, so day one is the first time anyone is playing it properly.

The bunkers rely on a new terrain-hole system for underground spaces. Bohemia says it will be available for other maps and for modders, which is good news for anyone running a custom map with underground content plans.
Motorbikes on Every Map
Motorbikes are part of free Update 1.30, not the DLC, so they reach Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal servers as well. Crashes use ragdoll physics, and Bohemia reworked its animation system to support them. That rework is exactly why mods that touch player animations or vehicles are the ones most likely to break this week. Our best DayZ server mods guide covers which popular mods are server-side only, which helps you work out what to test first.
What 1.30 Means for Your DayZ Server
This is the part the patch notes do not spell out for community admins.
- The wipe. Bohemia calls 1.30 a fresh start, with a full wipe across all platforms on official servers. On your own server, the wipe is your decision. Either way, download a backup of the
storage_1folder inside your mission folder before you update, so you can roll back if a mod update goes wrong. - Nasdara is DLC-gated for players, not for the server. Like Sakhal, the map ships with the dedicated server files, but every player who joins a Nasdara server needs to own Badlands. Put that in your server name or Discord before you switch maps, or expect a lot of confused join attempts.
- Check where your mission files come from. We checked Bohemia's official DayZ-Central-Economy repository on GitHub on October 16 and it still only contains Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal missions (last updated August 13). Some server installers fall back to that repo when the install account does not own DayZ, so a server set up that way will not have a Nasdara mission until Bohemia publishes one. After updating, look in
mpmissions/for the new mission folder and point thetemplateline inserverDZ.cfgat that exact folder name. - Your loot edits do not carry over. Every map has its own
types.xml, spawnable types and event files. Tuned Chernarus loot means nothing on Nasdara, so plan time to rebuild it, along with traders and safe zones if you run them. - Mods: wait a day. Bohemia said the first 1.30 patch arrives on Experimental on October 16 and focuses on issues affecting modders on Steam, with a stable patch for all platforms later. If your server depends on a large mod stack, hold your update until the big frameworks confirm 1.30 support.
- Give it headroom. A bigger map with thousands of persistent rebuildable objects is more work for the server than vanilla Chernarus. Watch memory and restart times in your panel for the first few days, and raise RAM before players notice lag, not after.
Worth Coming Back For?
For server owners, yes. The rebuildable wells and the Morse code bunkers give PvE and roleplay communities something to organise around, which is rarer in DayZ than new guns. The DLC requirement will split some groups, so a lot of communities will run Nasdara alongside a free map rather than replacing it. Bohemia has also promised continued optimisation across all terrains and seasonal events on select maps in the coming months.
Host Your DayZ Server with DoomHosting
If you want to run Nasdara for your group, DoomHosting's DayZ servers give you full FTP access to serverDZ.cfg and your mission folders, one-click backups before the wipe, DDoS protection and support that knows DayZ. Spin one up, back up your storage, and see you in the Badlands.
