SCUM 1.3 "Into the Wild" is live, June's hotfix landed yesterday, and the hunting overhaul is the real story. Gamepires and Splash Damage shipped the May Update on May 25, 2026, kicking off the first of three themed monthly patches running through July. Hotfix 1.3.0.2 dropped June 8 with a stack of quality-of-life and performance fixes. No wipe with any of it, which is the headline for server owners.
Release Date
The full season runs May through July, with new features and reworks landing each month around the hunting, fishing, cooking, farming, and wilderness survival theme.
- SCUM 1.3.0 (May Update, "Into the Wild"): live since May 25, 2026.
- Hotfix 1.3.0.1: May 28, 2026.
- Hotfix 1.3.0.2: June 8, 2026.
- No wipe: characters, bases, and progression carry over.
Hunter's Grotto and Animal Trail Generation

The Hunter's Grotto is a new corner inside the Island's existing trader outposts. It carries a curated selection of hunting supplies (bows, arrows, traps, bait) and is the pickup point for the hardest hunting quests in the patch. If you run a PvE server with a hunting-focused community, the Grotto centralises everything those players were already chasing across the map.
Animal trail generation replaces the old hunting minigame for trail-following. After a hunting clue triggers an encounter, animals leave physical tracks in the world. Your Awareness skill controls how clearly you can read them, so leveling Awareness now has a direct hunting payoff. The "Into the Wild Season Stat Bonus" gives every character (existing and new) extra Archery and Awareness XP gain for the duration of the season, active by default.
Bait Feeder: Hunting Comes to You

The Bait Feeder is a deployable container you load with a single food item. Compatible animals will spawn near it over time, with the trigger gated by whether that animal can naturally spawn in the biome you placed it in. In practice, you scout a biome, plant a feeder near a hunting blind, and wait. It is the closest SCUM has come to a passive hunting loop, and it works well for organised server groups that want fixed hunting spots near their bases. Different bait pulls different species, so knowing what roams your local biome is half the job.
Kill Quality Now Decides Meat Quality
Where you hit an animal and what you hit it with both feed into the meat and material quality you pull off the carcass. A clean headshot with a hunting bow returns better hides and cleaner cuts than a panicked dump of an automatic rifle. Long term, this gives a real reason to invest in calibrated bows and aimed shots instead of grabbing the nearest AK every time a deer crosses your path. Trader prices on the Hunter Bow and Woodland quiver were reduced in 1.3.0.1 so the bow path is actually affordable.
Smoker, Farming Rebalance, and Dynamic Fishing

The Smoker is a new base-building element. Fuel it with sticks, planks, or small logs, light it, then load up to six pieces of meat. Smoked meat lasts dramatically longer than raw. A single base can run up to five Smokers in parallel. Hotfix 1.3.0.1 (May 28) corrected the experience exploit where players could yank meat mid-cycle and still get full XP, and 1.3.0.2 (June 8) extended the overcook grace window to 6 real-life hours so a forgotten Smoker no longer rots your storage stack.

Farming got a full pass. Yields now scale directly with your Farming skill, growth times are shorter, and the overall loop is built to feel like a rewarding survival path rather than a chore. Dynamic fish activity adds more fishing spots, new audio and visual cues, and ties fish size and weight directly to inventory space and fillet count.
Other quality-of-life lands: inventory auto-sort by type, amount, or durability (works on chests too), and a food-loot rebalance that pulls non-survival foods out of many loot tables.
Hotfix 1.3.0.2: What Just Got Patched (June 8)
The headline fixes from yesterday:
- Chest performance: opening a chest packed with guns and attachments no longer causes a frame drop or disconnects players.
- Quest-bound disconnects: logging in with certain active quests was loading characters in naked and then disconnecting. Fixed.
- Smoker overcook window: extended from 2 minutes to 6 real-life hours. Forgetting your Smoker still ruins the meat, but a quick AFK no longer torches a full load.
- Trader pricing corrected: Laika and WW vehicle items, plus related parts, had wildly underpriced trader values. Now matched to value.
- Sort by type now actually groups duplicates: previously items of the same exact type were still scattered. Fixed.
- Ragdoll-through-terrain on teleport: gone.
Two known issues remain: player corpses sometimes disappear while a killed player is on the respawn screen, and the hunting task is temporarily disabled while it gets reworked. Both return in the next monthly patch.
What This Means for Your SCUM Server
A few practical notes for anyone running a dedicated server:
- No wipe required. The May update did not wipe and neither hotfix changed that. Your players keep characters, bases, and inventory.
- Server browser stability. Hotfix 1.3.0.1 fixed an over-aggressive max-lag check that was rejecting some clients at connect, plus a SteamID mismatch that prevented some players from joining. Public servers should see fewer "can't connect" tickets after applying the hotfix.
- Performance fix you will feel. The chest plus attachment frame drop fix in 1.3.0.2 was the most common server-side stutter complaint in the patch's first two weeks. Restart after applying so the change reaches every online client.
- SDSpeechTools is off for now. The client-side speech-to-text component (intended for future accessibility features) is temporarily disabled while older-CPU crashes get investigated. It runs a local model, never sends voice data anywhere. Worth knowing if a player asks why the toggle vanished.
- Plan a maintenance window for July. June and July both add more Into the Wild features, so expect another patch cycle within 3 to 4 weeks. Schedule a world backup, a 10 minute restart window, and a community heads-up post.
Verdict: Worth Coming Back For?
Yes. Hunting in SCUM was thin and grindy before this. Trail generation, the Bait Feeder, and the kill-quality system rebuild it into a real survival loop. The Smoker fixes the meat-preservation hole everyone has been complaining about for two years. The no-wipe policy means returning players slot back into their existing base. With June and July still to land, the back half of summer should be the strongest SCUM has felt in a while. If your server has gone quiet over the last few months, this is a fair reason to call players back.
