Icarus Week 235 dropped on June 5, 2026, and it's one of the more server-relevant weekly updates the dev team has shipped in months. There's a new Tier 5 device that reconfigures Deep Ore Veins on existing prospects, Obsidian arrives on all three maps, and the build is roughly 500 MB smaller on disk after a texture optimization pass. If you're running a long-lived Icarus dedicated server with prospects that predate Dangerous Horizons content, this is the patch that finally lets you bring the new resources in without regenerating the world.

Release Date

Icarus Week 235 went live on Thursday, June 5, 2026, build version 3.0.13.152513-rel-DangerousHorizons. The patch lands on dedicated servers automatically the next time the process restarts. Your Pterodactyl panel handles it the moment you stop and start the server.

The Deep Cycler: Reconfiguring Existing Prospects

The headline feature is the Deep Cycler, a Tier 5 device crafted at the Manufacturer and powered by Refined Oil. Place it on terrain near any Deep Ore Vein and it reconfigures nearby veins into a different available resource. Veins with drills already attached are excluded, and the UI shows you every affected vein before you commit to activation.

Icarus Deep Cycler placed on terrain

Why this matters for prospects that have been running for months: until now, the only way to make newly added Deep Ore Vein resources (Obsidian being the latest) appear on an existing world was for RocketWerkz to forcibly regenerate or alter veins server-side. That's invasive and unpredictable. The Deep Cycler gives players an opt-in solution they control, on their own timeline, with their own resource cost.

There's a multiplayer hook too. Activating the Deep Cycler attracts Caveworms and Landsharks, similar to a Thumper. The device shuts down if it takes too much damage during the cycle, so co-op groups have a defense event to coordinate around. Solo prospectors can still run it but should fortify the area first.

One thing worth flagging from the changelog: the original Deep Cycler range was too large, and the team has already pulled it in. Refined Oil consumption was also reduced so a single 20L oil can completes one full cycle. Tune your supply chain accordingly.

Obsidian Deep Ore Veins Hit Olympus, Styx, and Elysium

Week 235 also adds Obsidian Deep Ore Veins to every map. On newly created prospects, these spawn naturally during world generation. On existing prospects, you need the Deep Cycler to surface them.

For server owners running shared persistent worlds, the practical workflow is straightforward: brief your players on where to look, stockpile Refined Oil, and pick a cluster of low-yield Deep Ore Veins to reconfigure first. Don't cycle every vein on the map at once. Obsidian unlocks a chunk of mid-to-late game crafting tied to the Dangerous Horizons expansion, so you want a steady trickle rather than a glut.

Texture Optimization Pass: ~500 MB Lighter

Tucked into the Notable Improvements section is the change that quietly matters most for hosting: roughly 500 MB of texture optimization. That's 500 MB off the server binary footprint, which translates directly to disk usage on your VPS or container.

For a dedicated server box that holds several Icarus instances or multiple prospect snapshots, that adds up fast. It also means slightly faster process start times, since fewer bytes need to be paged into memory at boot. If you run automated daily backups of /home/container/Icarus to off-box storage, your nightly bandwidth bill drops a touch too.

Smaller Server-Facing Fixes Worth Noting

A few quieter improvements that matter for multiplayer:

  • Lava Broodlings no longer attack and kill other creatures by default. The change keeps Volcanic Biomes populated with active fauna for hunting prospectors instead of letting Broodlings depopulate the area solo.
  • Basic Building Beams had their placement guide helpers corrected so they no longer render squished and unreadable. Players who base-build with steel beams on long prospects will notice immediately.
  • Resource Network Inspector UI strings no longer overlap in non-English locales, a long-standing gripe for the European Icarus community.

What This Means for Your Icarus Dedicated Server

A short checklist for server owners running Week 235:

  • Restart cleanly after the patch lands. Stop the process from the Pterodactyl panel, wait for full shutdown, then start. Avoid a hard kill to prevent partial prospect saves.
  • Back up prospects before cycling. The Deep Cycler is non-destructive in normal use, but back up /home/container/Icarus/Saved/PlayerData/<prospect> before letting any player run a cycle on a high-investment world.
  • Schedule the first Deep Cycler run as a community event. It's a defense fight with PvE waves. Stack it with your busiest evening session for max participation.
  • Brief Refined Oil supply ahead of time. A single 20L oil can clears one cycle. Players who haven't been refining oil at scale will hit a bottleneck immediately.
  • Check texture cache after the update. The 500 MB optimization touches client and server assets. If mods or workshop content overrode textures, expect a one-time client reload on first connect.

Next Week: Ubis Phenotypes and Breeding

RocketWerkz tagged Week 236 in the same announcement: Ubis breeding, with several new phenotypes to add diversity to offspring. Ubis are the large swamp birds, and making them breedable with opposite-sex partners pulls the swamp creature loop closer to the chicken and cattle systems that already exist. For multiplayer servers, that's a new long-running project players can stake claims on between drops.

Host Your Icarus Server with DoomHosting

Running Icarus on shared hardware was always a stretch for the Dangerous Horizons expansion, especially with deep mining and large prospect file sizes. Our DoomHosting Icarus dedicated servers run on Ryzen 9 hardware with full FTP access for prospect backups, instant setup so you can be in your first Week 235 prospect inside ten minutes, DDoS protection, and 24/7 support if a Deep Cycler defense wave goes sideways. Pick a region close to your group, scale RAM in 2 GB steps as your prospect grows, and you're set.

The Deep Cycler changes the calculus on whether to start a new world or extend the one you've been running for the last six months. If you've been waiting for a clean way to bring Obsidian into a prospect you've already poured 200 hours into, this is the patch.
