Counter-Strike 2 Premier Season 5 went live on July 9, 2026, and it brought the biggest map pool shake-up in years. Cache is back in Active Duty for the first time since 2019, Overpass is out, five community maps entered rotation, and Valve quietly re-engineered the way C4 does damage on every official defusal map.
If you run a CS2 community server, the map churn matters more than the ranked news. Rotation configs, custom map cycles, and workshop collections all need attention this week.

Release Date
Premier Season 5 rolled out on July 9, 2026 as part of Valve's "Season 5, Armory, and More" update, first teased on the Counter-Strike blog on July 8. Two follow-up client patches shipped on July 9 and July 15 to clean up stability regressions and pickup-through-buy-menu bugs.
Cache Is Back in Active Duty
The headline change: Cache returns to the Active Duty map pool after a seven-year absence, replacing Overpass. It's the fully reworked Source 2 build with updated textures, revised clipping around Mid and A Main, and a lighting pass that plays noticeably brighter than the 2019 version most veterans remember.
Overpass is not deleted, just rotated out of ranked. It stays available in Casual, Deathmatch, and community servers. Any custom map cycle that hard-coded de_overpass will keep working, but if your rotation is meant to track Premier for scrim purposes, you want to swap in de_cache and drop de_overpass from the Premier subset.
Five New Community Maps in Rotation
Valve added five community-made maps to official matchmaking pools:
- Boulder: Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch
- Fachwerk: Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch
- Shelter: Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch
- Debris: Wingman
- El Dorado: Wingman
And four older community maps were removed: Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, Sanctum. If any of those four are pinned in your server's rotation, they will still run for players who already have the workshop subscription, but new players hitting your server for the first time will need to re-subscribe manually. Practically that means a lag spike when they connect and a chance they simply bounce. Rotate them out unless you have a strong reason not to.
The C4 Damage Model Was Rebuilt
The change buried at the bottom of the notes is the most interesting one for anyone hosting competitive servers. From Valve's changelog: explosion damage from the C4 is now applied according to precomputed simulation values, per official map, and the shockwave rapidly expands from the center rather than being applied instantaneously.
In practice: on Mirage, Inferno, Dust II, Anubis, Nuke, Ancient, Cache, and Train, defuse timings and post-plant damage around common bomb spots have shifted. Distances that used to survive the blast at low HP now do not, and vice versa. Anyone running skill-development or retake servers should tell players to re-test their bomb-cover spots this week.
Custom maps on your server do not get the precomputed data. They fall back to a generic damage profile. Community map authors will need to ship new sim data with their next workshop update if they want the new behaviour on their maps.

Armory Rotation: Spy Tech, Arabesque, and Two New Sticker Sets
The Armory swapped in two new weapon collections built from community submissions in the recent Call to Arms event: Spy Tech (sleek, espionage-themed finishes) and Arabesque (dense Middle Eastern pattern work). Two new sticker collections joined too: Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing.
Rotated out: Train 2025 and Sport & Field weapon collections, Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker collections. If you run skin-drop plugins or Contract-style servers, expect players to ask why the old collections are missing this week. Update your server's item pool references accordingly.
Official Map Adjustments
Small quality-of-life fixes on three Active Duty maps:
- Cache: various clipping adjustments in the reworked build
- Dust II: fixed a pixel gap and clipping issue outside Tunnel
- Inferno: clipping fix that closes off a pixel boost at Top of Mid
If you were caching route videos or setting up practice lineups referencing any of those spots, re-check the geometry before you run them on your server.

Workshop and Client Polish
A handful of smaller changes worth flagging for server operators and map authors:
- Custom Paint Job Extended got overlay-mask texture options, giving map authors more control over stencil-style decals.
- Sticker rotation on weapons is now finer-grained (half-degree increments instead of whole-degree steps).
- Scoreboard performance was optimised, which shows up as noticeably lower frame drops when you tab into the scoreboard on 128-tick community servers.
- Source 2 engine was bumped to the latest version. If your server runs SourceMod or Metamod, verify your plugin set boots cleanly before players show up.
What This Means for Your Server
A short checklist for community server operators running through Season 5 this week:
- Update your map rotation: add
de_cacheif you're mirroring Active Duty, and rotate outde_warden,de_stronghold,de_alpine,de_sanctumfrom workshop cycles. - Warn players about C4 timing: post-plant and defuse math on the seven official defusal maps has changed.
- Restart Metamod/SourceMod after the engine bump and re-verify plugin health before opening slots.
- Refresh skin-drop plugin references if you use the old rotated-out collections.
- Take backups: the July 15 hotfix is stable, but if you customised game_events.res or maplist.txt, keep your pre-Season-5 copy in case a later Valve patch overwrites default files.
Worth Coming Back For?
Yes. Cache in Active Duty is the kind of change ranked veterans have been asking for since the reworked port shipped, and it plays well in the Source 2 lighting. The C4 damage overhaul is more subtle but changes real gunfights on real maps, and the community map additions give Casual and Wingman rotations some genuine variety for the first time in months.
