Astrolabe Interactive and Funcom used the 2026 Green Games Showcase to confirm the next Aloft update will also be the last one before the game leaves Early Access. The announcement dropped on June 6, 2026, alongside a 25% Steam Summer Sale that runs through July 9. If you have been drifting between islands since launch day and wondering how many patches were left, the answer is now: one more, then 1.0.

Release Window

The final Early Access update arrives "this summer," which in the Northern Hemisphere calendar Astrolabe uses means somewhere between now and late September. No exact date was given at the Green Games Showcase, and the studio has told players to expect more details in a follow-up devlog closer to the drop. After the update ships, the roadmap moves straight to the 1.0 milestone.

That is the shape of the runway: one more content patch on the Early Access branch, then a full release. No number was attached to the version, and Astrolabe has not committed to a 1.0 date either.

What Astrolabe Actually Said

The showcase clip was short and stayed light on details. Here is exactly what the studio confirmed on June 6:

  • The next Early Access update is the final one before 1.0
  • It ships in Summer 2026
  • The "journey continues toward the 1.0 launch" after it drops
  • More information is coming in a future devlog

Everything else you may have seen circulating (specific biome names, exact patch numbers, a fixed 1.0 date) is speculation drawn from previous devlogs, not part of the Green Games Showcase reveal.

Building on Gliders & Gales

To read the direction Astrolabe is heading, the Gliders & Gales update from February 12, 2026 is the best reference. It shipped 22 new glider patterns, 6 new glider shapes, 2 fabric upgrades, 9 Oculi with unique flight bonuses, and more than 6 glider trails. That was already the anniversary showcase piece, and Astrolabe used it to lean hard into the game's sky-sailing identity.

The final Early Access update is expected to close out the systems that have been in flight since then, tighten multiplayer, and finish the biome and story content that was still gated behind "coming soon" pins on the Astrolabe roadmap. The studio's community posts through spring have leaned on preservation, weather, and cozy exploration as themes, which lines up with the Green Games Showcase context.

What This Means for Your Aloft Server

An Early-Access-to-1.0 update is a bigger deal for dedicated server owners than a normal patch. Three things to plan for:

  • Back up your world before you update. Aloft stores each shared world as a single save on the host. When a major patch changes crafting recipes, quest chains, or biome data, a rolled-back save is the difference between "we play tonight" and "we start over." Do it from the FTP tab in your control panel and keep at least one copy off the server.
  • Expect a player return spike. Every survival game gets one when the last big EA update lands and every returning player wants to see the new content. Aloft supports up to 8 players on a shared world, so if you have been running under-provisioned, that is the moment to bump RAM before it becomes a lag story.
  • Client and server both update. Aloft's dedicated server binary is patched on the same cadence as the client. If Astrolabe follows the same rollout they used for Gliders & Gales, you will restart the container, pull the new build, and be back online in minutes rather than hours. Keep an eye on the update tab for that window.

What About 1.0?

Astrolabe has been very careful not to attach a date to 1.0. The line at the showcase was "the journey continues toward the 1.0 launch," which is the same wording Funcom used for Dune: Awakening in its own pre-launch stretch. Read it as "we are closing in, and we will tell you when we are closer, not now."

Realistically, once the final Early Access update ships in Summer 2026, a 1.0 launch could land any time between late 2026 and mid 2027. The gap depends on how much stabilization work is left after this patch, and how much of the roadmap Astrolabe wants to hold back for the paid launch window. Either way, this is the point where dedicated worlds start mattering more, because friend groups who have been playing on peer-to-peer sessions will want a persistent home to migrate before 1.0.

Should You Come Back Now?

If you dropped off after Gliders & Gales, the last Early Access patch is the moment to reinstall. Astrolabe has a history of using final EA updates to bundle the small quality-of-life fixes and polish that get lost in bigger content drops, and the game is 25% off through July 9, 2026 as part of the Funcom Steam Summer Sale. If you have never played, that discount plus a final content patch is the cleanest on-ramp Aloft is going to have before 1.0.
