Rust Server RAM Calculator

Rust servers are more RAM-hungry than many other games. A basic server with a default-sized map needs at least 4-6GB. With more players, plugins, and larger maps, you can easily need 8-16GB. RAM usage also grows over a wipe cycle as players build structures across the map.

A vanilla Rust server with no Oxide plugins on a default 3km map needs about 4-6GB of RAM for up to 50 players. For 50-100 players, 6-8GB is recommended. For 100+ player servers, plan for at least 8-10GB. Rust uses a significant amount of RAM just for the base map and entity system.

Oxide/uMod plugins add varying amounts of RAM overhead depending on their complexity. A light plugin setup (1-10 plugins) adds roughly 0.5-1GB, a medium setup (10-25 plugins) adds 1-2GB, and heavy plugin loads (25+ plugins) can add 2-4GB or more.
