How many players can join an Astroneer server?

Up to eight players can be on the server at once. Astroneer is built for small co-op groups, so eight slots is plenty for a friend group, and because the world keeps simulating on the server your bases and automation keep running whether anyone is logged in or not.

Do my friends need to change anything to join?

Yes, and this catches almost everyone. Every player has to add net.AllowEncryption=False to their own Engine.ini before a dedicated server will accept them. It is a one-time edit per computer. Our step-by-step guide walks through exactly where the file lives and what to paste in.

Can I upload an existing save?

Yes. Your server has full FTP access, so you can drop an existing .savegame file straight into the save folder and load it from the server. You can also download the server's saves at any time to keep your own backups, on top of the automatic backups included with your plan.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes. You can upgrade RAM or storage at any time from your control panel and only pay the difference for the rest of your billing period. Astroneer servers are light on memory, so most groups never need to move up, but the option is there if your base grows.
