That is the real base-location problem in Embervale. The question is not "where is the prettiest cliff", it is which ten spots are worth spending a permanent, world-wide resource on.

We host Enshrouded dedicated servers, so this guide is built around the constraint that actually bites a group of six: the altar budget belongs to the world, not to each player. Every site below is named with its real region and level band, so you can find it on your own map, and each comes with the reason it earns an altar instead of a campfire.

One thing up front: 1.0 lands on October 15, 2026, and the last section covers what that changes about your plans right now.

## The Three Numbers That Decide Every Base Site

Put scenery aside for a moment. Three hard numbers govern base placement in Enshrouded.

**Ten altars, world-wide.** The cap is ten simultaneous Flame Altars per world and it does not scale with your Flame Level. On a solo world that is generous. On a six-player server where everyone wants a personal keep plus a mining outpost, you run out fast. Agree the altar budget before anyone plants one.

**40 blocks up to 160.** An altar at level 1 protects a 40x40x40 cube. Level 2 gives you 80x80x80, level 3 gives 120x120x120, and level 4 reaches the maximum 160x160x160. Levels 5 to 9 unlock other benefits but the box stops growing. A site's real value is therefore whether a 160-block cube centred there holds the ore, the flat ground, the water and the room to build upward.

**Biome level and Flame Level.** Every region gates on both. Springlands is character level 1 to 10 at Flame Level 1 to 2. Revelwood is level 10 to 15 at Flame 3, Nomad Highlands 15 to 20 at Flame 4, Kindlewastes 20 to 30 at Flame 5, Albaneve Summits 30 to 40 at Flame 6 to 8. Planting an altar in a region you cannot yet survive is the most common way to waste one of your ten.

![An Enshrouded base inside a flame protected area, with artisan NPCs working and the comfort level readout visible](https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/flame-protected-area-comfort.webp)

Worth knowing before you plan around it: Comfort raises your own Rested duration, not your artisans' output. Decorate for the buff and the look, not because you think it levels your Blacksmith.

## Springlands: Build Small, Near Where People Log In

Springlands is level 1 to 10 and it is where every character on your server starts. That makes it a rally point, which is a genuine reason to spend an altar, and a terrible reason to spend a big one.

The strongest starter sites sit in the triangle between Rookmore, Woodgard and Ferndale: flint and the Saline Quarry are close, the artisan vaults are in walking range, and the Springlands Hollow Halls give you a first proper loot run without a cross-map trip. All you need is a level 1 or 2 altar with a bed, a workbench and storage.

The mistake almost everybody makes is upgrading this altar to level 4 and pouring refined stone into a fortress. Six hours later you are in Revelwood and will never sleep here again. Keep it cheap and treat it as a waypoint.

## Revelwood: The Base You Actually Keep

Build your one serious base in Revelwood. Level 10 to 15 at Flame Level 3 is where you finally have the tools to build well, with most of the map still ahead.

Pikemead's Reach is the obvious anchor. It is the region's capital, it puts copper ore, hardwood, flax and amber inside a comfortable radius, and the surrounding ruins hand you walls and floors to build against. Lone Thistle and Diadwyn are quieter alternatives if your group would rather not sit on the landmark everyone fast-travels to.

![A player placing new structures with glowing block previews against the ruined stonework of a Revelwood landmark](https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/building-among-ruins-revelwood.webp)

Build against existing ruins wherever you can. Terrain is fully deformable, and every voxel you carve or place is state the server stores and streams to everyone connected. Standing walls are free architecture, and on a busy server that is the cheapest performance decision you will make.

Skip the Blackmire sub-biome in the northwest as a home. Levels 13 to 15, worth farming for Bark and Heartwood, too dangerous to live in.

## Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes: Outposts, Not Homes

Nomad Highlands (15 to 20, Flame 4) is the best connected region in Embervale. It borders four others and its limestone bluffs sit above the Shroud, which makes it tempting. Resist the full base. Put a small altar near Rattlebleak or Pondsworth, sized for the copper, tin and limestone you came for. A level 2 altar at 80 blocks is plenty and costs far less of the shared budget.

Kindlewastes (20 to 30, Flame 5) is the same logic with better rewards. Brittlebush and East Lapis put lapislazuli, iron ore and sulfur in reach, and sandstone is everywhere. Sulfur alone justifies an altar: hauling it across the map every time is the most tedious trip in the game.

![A player resting at a campfire in windswept highland terrain with the Rested status panel visible](https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/highland-camp-rested-buff.webp)

Scout with campfires first. A fire and a bedroll cost nothing and tell you in twenty minutes whether a site is worth one of your ten.

## Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin: The Endgame Sites

Albaneve Summits runs level 30 to 40 at Flame 6 to 8 and holds the materials that finish a run: iron, silver, coal, amethyst, obsidian and granite. Wickmouth, Rothstep and Polaris Falls are the practical anchors, with the Camellia Lake Marble Quarry and the Obsidian Mine close by. Howling Peak, the highest point in Embervale, makes a spectacular build but sits exposed and far from everything: a trophy, not a workshop.

Veilwater Basin is the level 35 to 45 endgame, and by then you should be recycling altars rather than adding them. Removing one frees the slot, so retire the Springlands camp before you place your Basin site.

## What Changes on a Dedicated Server

Enshrouded dedicated servers cap at 16 players through `slotCount` in `enshrouded_server.json`, and at that scale the base-location maths changes:

- **One hub, many outposts.** Sixteen personal fortresses do not fit inside ten altars. Run one large shared base, usually the Revelwood site, and give each region a small outpost. A group build also fills a single 160-block box far better than a scattering of half-empty ones.
- **Terrain edits are the expensive part.** Placed blocks and carved voxels both persist and both replicate. A group that hollows out a mountain grows the save much faster than one building upward on flat ground.
- **Set `slotCount` to what you actually run.** A 16-slot config for six players is reserved overhead nobody uses.

![A settled Enshrouded farmstead with livestock, artisan NPCs and player-built houses](https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/shared-farmstead-hub-base.webp)

Sizing the server itself is a separate question, and our [Enshrouded RAM calculator](/tools/enshrouded-ram-calculator) will get you closer than guessing.

## Should You Commit Before 1.0 on October 15?

Yes, with one caveat. Keen Games has confirmed October 15, 2026, and the August developer update made clear the focus is reworking existing systems plus a serious performance pass, not replacing the map. Building now is not wasted effort.

The caveat is the altar budget. If you are starting a fresh server in September, leave two or three slots unspent. Whatever 1.0 brings, you will want somewhere to put it, and freeing a slot later means demolishing a base you liked. What we know so far is in our [Enshrouded 1.0 release date breakdown](/blog/enshrouded-1-0-release-date-october-15-2026).

## The Short Version

A cheap camp in Springlands, one properly built home in Revelwood against existing ruins, small resource outposts in Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes, and a late site in Albaneve once you can survive it. Five or six altars for a full playthrough, with room left for October.

For a group, a [dedicated Enshrouded server](/enshrouded-server-hosting) keeps the world up when the host logs off. That matters more than any single site, because an altar nobody can reach is just decoration.","enshrouded base locations, best enshrouded base location, enshrouded base building, enshrouded flame altar, enshrouded revelwood, enshrouded springlands, enshrouded dedicated server, enshrouded server hosting, enshrouded 1.0, doomhosting","https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/best-enshrouded-base-locations-2026-hero.webp","guide","Magnus","Game Server Expert","2026-08-30T09:00:00+00:00","2026-08-30T19:56:17.884313+00:00
"bedste-enshrouded-base-placeringer-2026","beste-enshrouded-basis-standorte-2026","parhaat-enshrouded-tukikohtapaikat-2026","meilleurs-emplacements-de-base-enshrouded-2026","najlepsze-lokalizacje-baz-enshrouded-2026","basta-enshrouded-basplatser-2026
Aug 30, 2026
{"https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/flame-protected-area-comfort.webp":94,"https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/building-among-ruins-revelwood.webp":97,"https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/highland-camp-rested-buff.webp":98,"https://cdn.doomhosting.com/blog/enshrouded/shared-farmstead-hub-base.webp":99
1920,1080
[101,111,121,131
"40287de5-dddf-4fc6-a5d9-cb82db6e48d2","romestead-peer-to-peer-vs-dedicated-server","Romestead Peer to Peer vs Dedicated Server: Which to Pick","Peer to peer or a dedicated Romestead server?
